Rant Time

I don't think many people of my world follow my blog so I am not concerned about pissing people off by posting what I am about to post.

Friends, many of you might know some may not. But I volunteer my time to an animal rescue. This means that I open my home to dogs and cats that were minutes away from euthanasia (being killed) to let them have a chance at love and a home. We are a small operation and of course never operate in the black. I make collars and leashes also as a volunteer so that we can have some money coming in to help with these animals.  I care about these animals that end up in a pound that only has to house them for 72 hours before being euthanized.  I stress out every week when it gets to that last few hours that the animal has to find its owners, a foster, or a different rescue to save it from a certain death.  When I see people asking for a puppy or kitten I always try to steer them towards a rescue animal. Those animals have been altered, have all age appropriate shots, and on prevention for fleas, ticks, and heartworms. So when I have friends that go out and BUY a dog or cat or even get one for free from someone giving them away (because they COULDN'T care less to have their dogs fixed), I take it as a personal stab at what I do, what I believe in.  I usually unfriend these people because I get to see animals die every week because people don't want to pay adoption fees, they would rather pay breeder fees or have one for free because they don't want to spend money on one but also don't give it shots or get it altered. So excuse me if we can't be friends anymore because watching dogs die every week is hard and with people buying from breeders or getting them from people that don't get their dogs fixed that reality isn't going to change.

I will be brave at some point and post it on my facebook page. Until then I will just quietly delete those who I thought were friends and were not...

Getting tired of College town

So most of you know that I graduated in December. YIPEEEE. After a 5.5 year stint in the slammer aka OSU Architecture School. Yes that mouth full. We orginally planned to be leaving the country soon. To go try our hand at being Aussie's for a few years. But the schooling fell through on C's part. By that time though I had been hired at a local school to be the In-School Suspension teacher, ps I love to teach. So that put off job hunting for a while longer.  WELLL NOW the job hunt begins. I sent out 6 inquireys on Friday, heard back almost immedietely from one. They weren't hiring but would keep me in mind if/when they did. So this week I have been glued to my computer and phone awaiting a call back from the other 5 I sent out....ya no leads yet. So again today I will send out a few more and see if I can hear something.

But on to my title. We recently had some college students move in down the street (it happens we live in a college town) they have a motorcycle, while I have nothing against the machine they are starting to irritate me with it. They drive it up and down the street and around the neighborhood at least 20 times every day revving the engine. UGH. I am so ready to leave this place.

Two weeks to step 3

Took the children today to get their rabies shot done, they didn't need them per say they weren't due until July but due to us possibly leaving around that time I needed to get them done before then.  So I loaded up my four children into the car and off to the vet we went.  Thank goodness that J was there to help. Apollo thought that he was on a grand adventure, George just wanted to be petted, Dian was unsure of the world, and Nick, well Nick was royally pissed off ( he still kinda is). I did warm the vet student that drew the short straw and got Nick, but he still jumped when Nick tried to take his arm off. Well the exams went well except that G needs some dental work done. (Boo) everyone got their shots and is back home. And in two weeks we go back in to see the vet again to get blood drawn for their RNAT test.  The vet did tell me that Nick is most likely going to have to be given some knock out drugs so that he isn't the grumpy cat we all know and love.

This is going to be a long process.

When scaries abound

So this morning I was sleeping in, quite peacefully when all of a sudden a loud screaming started.  I don't think many people like being awoken by their fire alarms going off.  I quickly checked all the rooms in the house, no smoke. Thank goodness.  Now to make the things stop screaming at me.  A change from the house that I grew up in is that with the house that C and I currently live in, the alarms are wired together (so every single one was going off) and it is wired to the alarm system that calls the police and fire department.  So here I am trying to figure out how to get the alarms off while worried that I was going to get a visit from the fire department.  The hero in this story is my husband.  I call him near bawling, ( I have had a massive migraine the past three days, the alarms did not help) asking how I get them to turn off.  He says climb up and unattach one.  I did and it was still screaming in my hand.  It is no longer attached to the system but all of the alarms are still screaming.  So the battery comes out.  And blissful silence in my house.  I am proud of one fact....not a single dog in my house started howling with the alarms and A (my husbands Flat coated retriever) did not start freaking out.

So moral of this story.  Know how to turn off your fire alarms so that you don't have to call your significant other during class.

What do you do

So I titled this blog grouping what does a college student do after college.  I have recently reached this stage in my life.  I just graduated with my degree in Architecture....
Everyone was asking the weeks leading up to graduation.."What are you going to do after graduation?"  My response was always, "Find a job. My husband still has a year left of school." or "Well I am flying to Australia for three weeks, then I am going to find a job."   But you get the point it was, FIND A JOB.  Never could I have imagined the change that my life was about to take.  I never thought that while I was in Australia with my parents, in-laws, and husband, that my husband would get in his brain that he wanted to finish his degree at the University of Queensland in Brisbane.
Wow take that in.  Moving and living in Australia, for at least a year mind you, C still has a year of schooling needed to get his degree (2nd one).  Well what was my first thought but, we have animals, a house full of furniture, I am trying to find a job.  Well we can't leave our Furbabies, they are just that, our babies.  So I have started the process of transporting them to Australia to live with us.

Stay tuned for
