Friends, many of you might know some may not. But I
volunteer my time to an animal rescue. This means that I open my home to dogs
and cats that were minutes away from euthanasia (being killed) to let them have
a chance at love and a home. We are a small operation and of course never
operate in the black. I make collars and leashes also as a volunteer so that we
can have some money coming in to help with these animals. I care about these animals that end up in a
pound that only has to house them for 72 hours before being euthanized. I stress out every week when it gets to that
last few hours that the animal has to find its owners, a foster, or a different
rescue to save it from a certain death. When I see people asking for a puppy or kitten
I always try to steer them towards a rescue animal. Those animals have been
altered, have all age appropriate shots, and on prevention for fleas, ticks,
and heartworms. So when I have friends that go out and BUY a dog or cat or even
get one for free from someone giving them away (because they COULDN'T care less
to have their dogs fixed), I take it as a personal stab at what I do, what I
believe in. I usually unfriend these
people because I get to see animals die every week because people don't want to
pay adoption fees, they would rather pay breeder fees or have one for free
because they don't want to spend money on one but also don't give it shots or
get it altered. So excuse me if we can't be friends anymore because watching
dogs die every week is hard and with people buying from breeders or getting
them from people that don't get their dogs fixed that reality isn't going to
change.
I will be brave at some point and post it on my facebook page. Until then I will just quietly delete those who I thought were friends and were not...
